The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) donated to the Football Association of Malawi a brand new 16-seater Nissan minivan. The purpose of this endowment was to facilitate and assist the young players and be solely utilized for youth football development. The Nissan minivan was valued at a hefty amount of K35 million and presented to Malawi as part of three UEFA Assisted infrastructure projects.
Marie Clerc, the UEFA Assist Project team member, who donated the grounds of a UEFA Assist Leadership workshop at the Ku Chawe Hotel in Zomba on Friday, said at the conference that the bus would contribute and come in handy in the implementation of youth programs. She also stated, "We are ecstatic to be able to assist FAM in their ongoing efforts to grow young football in their region. In the following phase, FAM will be able to apply for more infrastructure programs,"
FAM President Walter Nyamilandu spoke his heart on this gratuitous occasion of donation made to Malawi, saying, "It is a one-of-a-kind gift. It will go a long way toward assisting our objectives in building and promoting youth football in the country." Coaches who travel across the country to carry out developmental programs will receive travel assistance. It has arrived at the ideal time for us to widen the scope of our youth football programs, where mobility is a barrier. Having such an infrastructure is quite beneficial, and we will be able to save a significant amount of money on transportation."
The UEFA Assist program, which began in 2017, aims to improve youth football development and strengthen unity among federations and national institutions, and associations outside of Europe.
